Personal finance, explained plainly

About

About Us

Informed Reads explains how consumer finance actually works in the United States — in plain language, without selling anything.

Most people meet the financial system at the point of a decision. A card application, a mortgage quote, an insurance renewal, a letter about a balance. The information available at that moment usually comes from someone with an interest in the outcome, and it tends to be written to persuade rather than to explain.

This site exists to cover the same ground differently. We write explainers about the mechanics: how a credit score is assembled, what a lender is pricing when it quotes you a rate, what a deductible actually does, how interest is calculated on a savings account. The aim is that a reader finishes an article understanding the system well enough to ask a provider the right question.

What we cover

  • Credit & Debt — credit files, scoring, and repayment options.
  • Loans & Mortgages — borrowing to buy, and where the costs sit.
  • Insurance — coverage, deductibles and claims.
  • Banking & Savings — accounts, interest, fees and transfers.

Our coverage is United States focused. Consumer finance rules vary enormously between countries and often between states, so we would rather be accurate about one market than vague about several.

How our articles are produced

Articles on Informed Reads are generated using artificial intelligence and published under the byline AI-Generated. Every article carries a notice at the end stating this. We disclose it because readers deserve to know how what they are reading was made, and because we would rather be straightforward about it than have it inferred.

Articles are written to describe how products and processes work in general terms. They are not personalized, they do not know your circumstances, and they cannot account for the specific terms of an agreement you have been offered.

What we do not do

We do not provide financial, tax or legal advice. We do not recommend specific lenders, insurers, banks or products, and we do not tell readers what to do with their money. Where an article describes a trade-off, it is describing the trade-off — not making the decision.

Figures, rates and eligibility rules change. Anything time-sensitive should be confirmed directly with the provider or the relevant regulator before you act on it.
